History in a Nutshell

The faculty was established in 1930 at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute of Leather Industry and was initially called the Engineering and Economics Faculty.

After World War II the faculty began training of engineers and economists for all sectors of the light industry.

In 1957, the faculty began training specialists in "Economics, organization and Consumer Goods Companies Planning."

In September 2011it was renamed into the Faculty of Economics and Business

Upon successful completion of the course a student will be able to:

  • - Apply economic reasoning to the analysis of selected contemporary economic problems.
  • - Understand how households (demand) and businesses (supply) interact in various market structures to determine price and quantity of goods and services produced and consumed.
  • - Analyze the efficiency and equity implications of government interference in markets.
  • - Recognize and identify situations leading to market failures and government failures. 
  • - Evaluate the intent and outcomes of government stabilization policies designed to correct macroeconomic problems. 
  • - Use economic problem solving skills to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the increasing globalization of the world economy.

Upon successful completion of the course a student will be able to:

  • - Demonstrate an ability to apply general management know-how in practical business situations.
  • - Draw upon specialist know-how, deploying concepts and sources incisively and with sensitivity.
  • - Demonstrate skills in interdisciplinary analysis, drawing upon different empirical sources, analytical perspectives and sub-disciplines within management studies.
  • - Demonstrate an ability to conduct methodological research into corporate and management issues, which may relate to overall strategy or a specific management function, that require familiarity with a range of data, research sources and appropriate methodologies.
  • - Be able to communicate effectively and convincingly on a factual supported basis, both orally and in writing.
  • - Work under self-direction, having acquired lifelong learning skills and personal development competencies.
  • - Search for information using different media, including the internet, databases and libraries.

Learning outcomes:

Within this learning programme, great importance is paid to economic course units, helping to build a common platform for the management of fashion businesses right from the first year of the programme; two managerial course units provide students with the conceptual tools required toanalyse business structures and work actively in the markets, creating both market and business value and applying the operational dynamics of management to the fashion system. 

An equal balance of culture and management is adopted right from the first year, with contributions in both marketing and fashion product positioning strategies and more purely aesthetic and creative areas, as widely requested by companies in the sector to meet the demands of the market.

Development of theoretical and applied fundamentals of the economy of higher education, vocational training for business management

Cybernetic foundations of innovation development

Scientific advisor: Prof.Dr. Olga Chubukova

Research areas:

  • Development of methodical maintenance of conceptual information monitoring of overcoming the uncertainties of both boundary and situational development conditions of the public sector of the economy and determination of criteria of its functioning improvement;
  • Creation of information and coordination institutions to provide operational and strategic links between public authorities and subjects of management based on the principles of systemic and situational management

Research results: 6 PhD theses, 61 research papers, 3 monographs, 5 course books 

Foundations of cognitive science

Scientific advisor: Prof.Dr. Vladyslav Ruban

Research areas:

  • development of cognitive processes methodological support on the basis of system-contextual simulation in the space of critical resources (knowledge and time), state of the object developed (perfection and danger) and time-dependent contextual states (past, current and final);
  • Development of cognitive systems for knowledge based society;
  • Creation of models for cognitive development of higher educational establishments.

Research results: 8 PhD theses, 106 research papers, 3 monographs, 3 course books

Improving production management using mathematical economic model

Scientific advisor: Prof.Dr. Volodymyr Rozhok

Research areas:

  • development of scientific basis for enterprise development strategy in light industry;
  • development of modern instrumental methods of enterprise management and production process management;
  • assessment of competitiveness of light industry products;
  • development of conceptual methods of generating logistic system for light industry.

over 200 research papers, 6 monographs, 6 course books

Contemporary technologies of production effectiveness, products quality and competitiveness management

Teaching Staff

We recognize that our students are talented in different ways, and our teaching staff work hard to bring out the best in all of our students. Faculty of Economics and Business employs almost 300 staff, more than half of which is academic staff. They contribute their knowledge and know-how to education as tutors, experts, curriculum designers, course coordinators, mentors and skills trainers.

International Cooperation

Our faculty trains specialists for different countries. They are: Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, Mongolia, Cuba, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Costa-Rica, Ethiopia, China and others. Our students intern at different light industry enterprises in Hungary and Czech Republic. FEB has established partnerships with universities of Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and China.

Students

Our students take active part in scientific conferences, academic competitions and amateur talent groups; best of them get scholarships from the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Mayor of Kiev and University senate.

Student self-governance is one of university’s most enduring traditions and strengths. It entrusts much of decision-making to students. 

Main areas of Student self-governance activity:

  • to protect students rights and interests;
  • to support students scientific and creative activity;
  • to control the quality of students housing conditions and recreation;
  • to support students project teams, talent groups and clubs;
  • to develop and implement business projects;
  • to cooperate with students of other universities and colleges.

Faculty provides the following scientific clubs for students:

“Economics and Service”, “Investor”, “Accountant: scientist and expert”, “Creative Manager”, “Marketing club M-TEAM”, “Financial Analysts”, “Trip to Success”.

Since 2014, our faculty has established a set of students’ business projects; one of them is called “Junior Business Academy” and has been developed by students only.
