About the Department
History

The Department of Management and Smart Innovation began its history in 1930 when the Departments of Planning, Labor Economics, General Economics and Accounting were created in the structure of the Faculty of Engineering and Economics. In the process of the Department development, the names were changed following changes in the curricula and specialties, their redistribution took place. But the direction ”Production Management” was formed in the activities of the Department from 1967 (the Department was called Management and Economics of Enterprise and in the late 90s – the Department of Management).

In different years, the heads of the Department were:

1930-1938 - prof. A.M. Gornostai-Polskyi; 1938-1953 - assoc. prof. G.S. Mesezhnikov; 1953-1967 - prof. N.A. Adamova; 1967-1978 - prof. G.P. Ispiryan; 1978-1981 - assoc. prof. O.Y. Simonov; 1981-1999 - academician, prof. Ph.D. V.D. Rozhok; 1999-2005 - prof. V.S. Chmelov; 2005-2006 - assoc. prof. L.O. Denisenko; 2006-2017 - prof. Yu. V. Goncharov; since 2017 - prof. A.O. Kasych.

The years of functioning of the Department have been transformed into experience, traditions, and image, continued by today’s teachers, graduate students, and undergraduates.

The strategic goal of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation is to provide teaching at a high theoretical and methodological level, considering the current stage of development of management science and taking into account the requirements of employers; carry out scientific, educational, methodological, education work to provide educational services that meet the standards of higher education; train a competitive specialist through the acquisition of the necessary cultural and professional competencies by the youth.

Conditions for the implementation of the strategic goal of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation: implementation of European standards and best international experience in the field of educational activities of the Free Economic Zone to determine the content of educational programs and individual educational components; introduction of innovative methods into the educational process;

development of the intellectual potential of the Department, an increase of professionalism of the academic staff, and maintenance of growth of efficiency of educational and research activity;

expansion of forms and methods of cooperation with domestic and foreign strategic partners-stakeholders;

development of a material and technical base of the Department and University.

Components of the Department’s competitiveness: professionalism, experience, and creativity of teachers; student activity and perseverance; cooperation with professional organizations and employers.

Today the Department of Management and Smart Innovation is part of the Faculty of Management and Business Design; it is a leading educational research unit for educational and research activities.

The Department is degree-granting, and it prepares students in the following specialties:

073 Management (educational degrees “Bachelor”, “Master”, “Doctor of Philosophy”),

281 Public Management and Administration (Bachelor’s Degree).

The competitive advantage of the bachelor's and master's programs of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation is their practical orientation and flexibility following changes in the economic environment, the requirements of the present; qualitative training of qualified specialist managers for various sectors of the economy and government; the ability of graduates to apply the obtained theoretical and methodological knowledge in a real economy.

 

1. Specialty 073 Management

Educational and professional program “Management”

Bachelor’s degree (4 years)

The purpose of the educational and professional program “Management” is to provide students with fundamental knowledge about the functioning and development of enterprises for the formation of their competitiveness, development of corporate culture, improvement of organizational and production structure, and ensuring an effective management system. This program develops practical skills for professional activity in management and administration.

The profession of a manager is included in the world ranking of TOP 25 Best Business Jobs. The prospect of increasing the number of vacancies in this specialty is about 300 thousand vacancies per year. The program offers a comprehensive approach to the management of modern enterprises and mastering the competencies of a competitive manager through theoretical and practical training.

 

2. Specialty 073 Management

Educational and professional program “Project and Smart Technology Management

Bachelors degree (4 years)

The purpose of the program is to provide the corporate sector with highly qualified project management specialists; to form a new generation of project managers who have deep knowledge, can produce new ideas, and make effective decisions on the development and implementation of innovative projects and programs, the use of smart technologies for business development.

Project management is a professional activity based on a combination of the latest scientific knowledge and smart technologies with practical skills in project development and implementation. It is focused on obtaining the most effective result during the implementation of various projects. Project and smart technology management is not a formal science, but a living methodology for organizing, planning, and coordinating the use of human and financial resources throughout the project life cycle. The use of smart technologies is evolving at a steady pace, making innovations obsolete almost as quickly as they appear. The educational program offers a set of competencies for the use of smart technologies for business development through the implementation of projects.

 

 

3. Specialty 281 Public Management and Administration

Educational and professional program “Public Management and Administration”

Bachelor’s degree (4 years)

The purpose of the educational-professional program “Public Management and Administration” is to train specialists in public management and administration who have deep knowledge, as well as fundamental and professional competencies for providing effective public management in state and regional authorities, local self-government, able to provide a socially acceptable level of providing administrative services based on openness, transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

The program is aimed at forming a theoretical basis for understanding the patterns of development of public administration processes; acquisition of competencies to create conditions for ensuring the effectiveness of the functioning of public bodies; orientation of applicants for self-development and self-improvement in the field of professional activities.

 

4. Specialty 073 Management

Educational and professional program Business Administration

Master’s degree (1.4 years)

The purpose of the program is to provide the corporate sector with highly qualified experts with professional competencies in management and business administration, able to solve practical management problems and specialized tasks in business administration, and focused on lifelong knowledge to realize personal potential.

The program aims to develop graduates with general and professional competencies, formed as a combination of fundamental economic education with practical skills of management decision-making, teamwork, negotiation, communication, presentation, etc. for professional activities in business management. Emphasis is placed on the development of critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis for professional purposes, identification, formulation, and solution of problems in different practical situations, and the use of innovative approaches in business, initiative, and entrepreneurship in various applications of modern management technologies.

 

5. Specialty 073 Management

Educational and scientific program “Management”

educational degree “Doctor of Philosophy” (4 years)

The purpose of the educational and scientific program “Management” is to train specialists following the requirements of Level 8 of the National Qualifications Framework in Management, which provides for the acquisition of sufficient competencies to produce new knowledge, solve complex problems of research and innovation, master the methodology of scientific and pedagogical activities, conduct the scientific research, the results of which have scientific novelty, theoretical and/or practical significance for the Ukrainian or world science.

Improving the Content of Educational Programs

Cooperation with employers to discuss learning outcomes, strengthen the practical component of the educational process, and improve the educational programs is carried out frequently by holding round tables, scientific and practical seminars, webinars, excursions to the companies and government agencies, as well as in the process of industrial and undergraduate practices.

In 2023-2024 meetings of two round tables were held to discuss the content of the OPP of the department:

On November 16, 2023, a meeting was held with the participation of the head of the department and students of various courses of the Management Program and the Business Administration Program, at which the quality of the educational process, the success of students, and the results of scientific work were discussed. Local self-government representatives were also involved.

On February 7, 2024, at the Department of Management and Smart Innovations, a round table was held to discuss the content of the OPP for the department's specialties 073 Management and 281 Public Management and Administration at the bachelor's, master's, and doctor of philosophy educational levels. A wide range of stakeholders, who are recognized experts in the field of professional management environment, and with whom the NPP of the department has been cooperating for many years, were invited to participate in the round table.

Among the proposals, the following should be indicated:

Kabakov Yu. V., proposed to introduce to the OPP the competences regarding knowledge and application in business of the requirements of international standards.

Aleynikova O.V., a professor at Masaryk University, proposed to introduce the educational component "State management of life safety" into the curriculum of bachelor's degree holders, which will contribute to the provision of competencies in the field of public administration.

Gorokhova L.P. offered to reflect the composition of developers in the OPP and to provide a list of higher education institutions with which the department cooperates.

Kopa Alina, Chernyakhovska Marina proposed to introduce more educational components to the curricula of OPP "Management", which will provide students with competencies in the field of digitization and environmentalization.

Opportunities for Students

Graduates of the Department hold leading positions and positions of specialists, the main areas of their professional activities are related to organizational, managerial, administrative, informational, and analytical activities in the corporate sector and the state, regional and municipal management.

Graduates of the Department are ready to solve the main professional tasks, including carrying out system analysis; developing strategic directions of development and ensuring competitiveness; planning and forecasting the object of management activity; developing and introducing innovations; organizing processes of management and development of rational forms of management; making effective management decisions; developing effective systems of motivation and wages; creating a favorable social and psychological climate in the team; conflict management; conducting scientific research; carrying out advisory activities.

Graduates in the specialty 073 Management can work as managers at all levels of management in the corporate sector; specialists in industrial, logistic, economic, marketing, personnel, and other functional divisions of enterprises; organizers of small and medium businesses; consultants for information, logistics, and personnel development management.

A management specialist may hold the following positions:

  • managerial staff in the departments of enterprises (planned economic, production, labor and wages, technological, marketing, personnel management, foreign economic activity);
  • deputy head of the company in economics, logistics, finance, and others;
  • head of the enterprise (general, functional, subsidiary enterprises in the integrated structures);
  • head of the department, director of the department (in the apparatus of state authorities);
  • expert, analyst, consultant, organizer, manager for market development, organizations, and economic processes;
  • researcher (economics).

The specialist in the organization and management in tourism can hold the following positions:

  • tourism manager;
  • domestic tourism manager;
  • international tourism manager;
  • tourism safety specialist;
  • consultant on tourism insurance;
  • tourist support specialist;
  • head of the tourism department in the executive branch (at the state and regional levels);
  • tourism organization agent;
  • travel consultant, consultant (in the staff of public authorities);
  • organizing secretary (association, union, tourism federation);
  • clerk for the main activity (tourism);

  • head of the travel agency.

Graduates in the specialty 281 Public management and administration can work in the state authorities, local self-government, and public organizations, can provide administrative services on the principles of openness, transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

An expert in public management and administration may hold the following positions:

  • heads and leading specialists of the local government agencies in the cities of regional subordination;
  • managers and leading specialists of enterprises, institutions, and organizations of various forms of ownership and their deputies;
  • at leading positions in central government bodies;
  • at leading positions in local government bodies;
  • at leading positions of local self-government bodies;
  • managers (directors) in the social sphere;
  • heads of individual sections of trade union organizations;
  • heads of public organizations.
Practice-oriented training

The department of management and smart innovations actively develops cooperation with practicing professionals, experts and representatives of employers, involving them, including, in conducting guest lectures, trainings, seminars, with the aim of using their practical experience and motivating students regarding career growth on real examples

During September and October 2023, students of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation had the opportunity to participate in a number of virtual meetings with successful entrepreneurs as part of the implementation of the ERASMUS+ VEHUB4YOU grant project, which is implemented at the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design together with leading European universities - "Business Wednesday" .

09/13/2023 - well-known Ukrainian businessmen TALIAT BIELIALOV and Eyvaz Bekir, co-founders and owners of the companies D-STOUN, TAKAVA, OkShina, YUG-Trading, Family Welfare and Choizy, revealed their secrets of success.

09/20/2023 - Azerbaijani entrepreneur ZAFAR MAMMADOV, founder of the construction company "Zaferoğlu inşaat", told his own experience in business organization.

04.10.2023 - SALVATORE PEPE - founder and owner of Mosaico Digitale and Graffiti for Smart City, businessman and entrepreneur (Italy) told about the trials he had to go through.

25.10.2023 - Karlis Straumbergs - the founder and owner of the hat production company "Straumbergs hats" (Latvia) spoke about his creative path in the field of design.

Leading professors of the following universities were also involved in "Business Wednesday":

On October 18, 2023, the professor of California State University San Marcos, director of global security and sustainability projects, Dr. Mark Siegel, gave an open lecture, the topic of the lecture: "Making managerial decisions under conditions of risk and uncertainty."

On October 20, 2023, a lecture was held by Mr. Hendrik Doss (Honored Doctor and Professor of UACU, CEO of dosscom). Applicants had the opportunity to ask their own questions and participate in the discussion.

10/31/2023 – a lecture was given by Guido Palazzo, professor of business ethics at the University of Lausanne.

On November 2, 2023, an open lecture was held by Oleksandr Buychyk, Doctor of Economics, Director of Science of the Tuculart Holding (Czech Republic) and the European Institute for the Development of Innovations, Editor-in-Chief of the European Scientific Journal "Klironomy" on the topic: "Transformation of the world economic system in 2023-2024. Graduates

Graduates of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation work in various spheres of the economic complex, at enterprises of different forms of ownership, both in Ukraine and abroad. The most famous among them are: V.V. Golub – PhD in Technical Sciences, professor, deputy chief of the humanitarian department of the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine; V.P. Shevchenko – PhD in Technical Sciences, Deputy Head of the Treasury of Ukraine; M.A. Yohna – PhD in Technical Sciences, professor, vice rector on international relations of Khmelnytsky National University of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine; O.E. Investigates the problems of improving the efficiency of exhibition activities.

 

The personnel structure is constantly updated, first of all, at the expense of young graduates of the Faculty of Management and Business Design of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design who have shown a high level of knowledge and ability to research and teaching activities.

Educational and Laboratory Premises

The Department has a modern material base: 2 lecture rooms, 3 auditoriums for practical classes, a methodological room (4-610a) and a staff room (4-610), 2 computer classes, in which 28 computers of different types are installed, copying and audiovisual equipment; educational-methodical laboratory, which provides students with educational materials, a diploma design office.

Material and technical support of the Department allows to fully ensure the educational process throughout the cycle of training of bachelors and masters in specialties 073 “Management” and 281 “Public management and administration”. The condition of the premises is certified by sanitary and technical passports, which are in accordance with the existing normative acts.

Courses of the Department and Their Methodical Support

At the Department, there is a systematic preparation and updating of educational and methodical literature, a search for new forms and methods of activating the educational process (business games, situational classes, etc.).

The educational and methodical complexes which define programs of the courses, the educational and industrial practices are developed; methodical instructions for the performance of term papers and theses, for independent work, for the performance of tests by part-time students, etc.

Research Activities

The Department is the center of research on the development of the theory and methodology of management of modern corporations, state and regional management, activation of investment and innovation activity, and human resources management.

Research work at the Department of Management and Smart Innovation is carried out in the following way: preparation of scientific personnel with scientific degrees; execution of thematic research work at the expense of state financing and at the expense of customers; publication of scientific papers (manuals, monographs, articles); approbation of the results of scientific research at scientific conferences of different levels; involving students into scientific work.

In recent years, the following scientific and pedagogical workers of the Department successfully defended Ph.D. theses: Y.O. Didenko, R.M. Fedoryak (2012), T.A. Kharchenko, A.A. Effectiveness of scientific activities of teachers

In the period of 2019-2022, the staff members of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation published 452 scientific papers. Scientific articles are published by professors of the Department mainly in the scientific specialized editions of Ukraine, which are part of the international scientific-metric databases, including Scopus, Web of Science.

Publication activity of the teachers of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation for the last three years is presented below.

 

The main directions of scientific research of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation:

  • management of innovation and investment development and competitiveness of industrial enterprises and the national economy;
  • improvement of the system of public administration in the conditions of decentralization and development of local self-government;
  • increasing production efficiency in the period of transformation processes and taking into account global challenges;
  • realization of strategic decisions in the field of management of enterprises and organizations;
  • economic and environmental aspects of the development of innovative entrepreneurship;
  • development and management of integration processes.

The Department of Management and Smart Innovation is the organizer and participant of scientific conferences and seminars. The seminars held jointly with the Ukrainian Association for Management Development and Business Education have become traditional. This event allows teachers of the Department to discuss the main prospects for the development of education in Ukraine and the task of quality assurance with their colleagues.

Scientific Achievements of Students

An important part of the Department is the organization of the research work of the students of the Department. The main forms of student research work are: participation in the student scientific club “Creative Manager” and “Leadership in Public Administration”, preparation of scientific articles, participation in scientific conferences and all-Ukrainian competitions f student research papers, etc. Among the areas of research of students and problems are: the introduction of European approaches to quality assurance; the development of innovation-oriented entrepreneurship, the introduction of modern methods of innovation management at Ukrainian enterprises.

Due to hard work and active scientific work, students of the Department can present their ideas at the all-Ukrainian level and make sure of their own competitiveness while studying.

The winners presented their scientific achievements at the final conferences at Vadym Hetman Kyiv National Economic University, Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Poltava State Agrarian Academy and Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. The Department of Management and Smart Innovation fully promotes the formation of a new generation of creative and business-minded leaders-managers, as it is the initiator and organizer of:

All-Ukrainian Competition of Student Research Papers in the specialization “Management of Investment and Innovation Activities”;

All-Ukrainian Competition of Diploma Theses in the specialization “Personnel Management”;

All-Ukrainian Olympiad for students in the specialty 073 Management.

Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design annually becomes a platform for the presentation of scientific achievements of students from all over Ukraine. The purpose of the competitions is the formation of professional and research competencies, to improve the quality of preparation of student research and diploma theses, and give students the opportunity to present the results of their research.

On the basis of the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design in the 2021/2022 academic year, the All-Ukrainian competition for qualification papers in the specialty 073 Management was held in the specializations "Personnel Management", "Management of Business Structures" (Competition). Students also presented their master's theses at the thesis competition at Mykhailo Ostrogradskyi Kremenchug National University.

On October 10, 2023, on the basis of the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design, the final conference of the All-Ukrainian competition of qualifying works of students in the specialty 073 MANAGEMENT was held.

The competition was held in accordance with the Letter of DNU "Institute of Modernization of the Content of Education" of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine dated 21/08-867 dated 05/23/2023.

In 2023/2024 at the All-Ukrainian competition for qualifying papers in the specialty 073 Management (specializations "Personnel Management", "Management of Business Structures"), 120 papers at the "Bachelor's" level and 67 papers at the "Master's" level were presented.

Scientific cooperation with other organizations

The Department of Management and Smart Innovation of KNUTD and the Ukrainian Quality Association Certification Authority carry out a joint project for the training and certification of the personnel in accordance with the requirements of the Harmonized Scheme of the European Organization for Quality. The contract between KNUTD and UQACA is concluded on December 15, 2009, No. 20, according to which the University carries out the training of management specialists in accordance with the requirements of the Harmonized Scheme of the European Organization of Quality, and the UQACA carries out the certification of these specialists.

To carry out the project at the Department of Management and Smart Innovation, the work was carried out on the development and preparation of curricula and programs, lecture materials, etc. documents that now meet the requirements of the Harmonized Scheme of the European Organization for Quality and form a course on qualification “Junior Manager of Quality Systems EOQ” for students of the specialty 073 “Management”.

According to the results of the conformity assessment, KNUTD is listed in the Register of Educational Organizations as a higher educational institution that meets the requirements of the European Organization for Quality.

Graduates of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation can take an exam without additional training for obtaining the Certificate of Competence EOQ. The CEA certificate is recognized in Europe and beyond. The certificate of EOQ expands the possibilities for international career and free choice for graduates of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation in Ukraine and in European countries.

Integration into the World Educational Space

An essential component of the educational activity of the Department is internationalization, manifested in the implementation of grant activities, and training of foreign students. Thus, the members of the Department participated in the development and implementation of KNUTD project Creative Spark, which gave both teachers and students the opportunity to significantly improve their level of English.

The Department constantly trains students from different countries, providing teaching in English as well.

International Cooperation

International cooperation involves integrated interaction of educational, cultural, scientific, and business levels with higher educational institutions, embassies, organizations, and institutions of foreign countries.

The Department of Management and Smart Innovation maintains and develops international relations with higher educational institutions and organizations from foreign countries.

International cooperation is realized through participation in joint educational projects and international conferences, round tables, symposiums, etc.

 

Internationalization of Educational Activities

KNUTD and the academic staff of the Department of Management and Smart Innovation are actively developing various forms of internationalization of activities, in particular, scientific international mobility of teachers, international cooperation, internal internationalization, and international education.

In the period from 28.11.2022 to 19.12.2022, the recipients of OPP, namely, Astsatryan A., Malyushenko O., Semenyuk V., Kravchenko S., Tymoshenko V., Kovalenko V., Davydenko I., Palamarchuk V., K. Sokolovska and I. Malyarenko had the opportunity to undergo an internship under the international academic mobility program at the Higher School of Agribusiness in Lomza, Poland (online) on the basis of an invitation letter from the Higher School (No. 621 dated October 25, 2022).

Teachers who provide ONP systematically participate in trainings and international programs. In particular: teachers of the department took part in trainings under the program Fundraising and organization of project activities in educational institutions: European experience, Krakow, Poland (Assoc. N.V. Bugas and Assoc. S.M. Bondarenko, 2021); under the program of international academic mobility at the Higher School of Agribusiness in Lomza, Poland (online) on the basis of an invitation letter from the Higher School (Prof. A.O. Kasich, Assoc. Tsalko T.R., Assoc. 2023).

Four teachers of the department (A.O. Kasych, O.V. Vartanova, T.R. Tsalko, S.M. Nevmerzhitska) received advanced training under the International 3 Months Workshop program "Erasmus+ Virtual Exchanges Project Writing and Submitting" (Riseba, The University of Foggia, Business Scholl PAR), 02.12.21 - 22.02.22, (online).

The result of the teachers' work was the submission of two projects in February 2022: Graduation Project - [VEHUB4YOU] VIRTUAL YOUTH BUSINES HUBS INTERNATIONAL NETWORK ID 101083856 from 22.02.22 and Graduation Project - [VE4S21] Virtual Exchange for 21st century skills, submitting ID - 101084021 from 22.02. 22. According to the first project, KNUTD received grant support for implementation in 2023-2025 () Prof. Vartanova O.V., Assoc. All T.R.).

In September 2022, the project ERASMUS-EDU-2022-VIRT-EXCH Virtual Exchanges with other specific regions in the world: 21S4NR – The 21st-century skills for a new reality - ID 101112155 was also submitted.

In February 2023, the Erasmus+ Capacity building in the field of higher education Strand 3 - Structural reform projects (EDUOEU) project was submitted. An application was also submitted for a research grant within the framework of "A long-term program of support for Ukrainian research teams at the PAS" with the participation of V.A. Palamarchuk, a graduate student. (Poland, 16.01.2023).

In the context of anti-epidemic measures, a number of meetings in the framework of practice-oriented training took place online.
