DEFENSE OF PRACTICE REPORTS BY THE STUDENTS OF THE "ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN" PROGRAM AT THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR DESIGN AND FURNITURE

During the first week of the spring academic semester, the Department of Interior and Furniture Design held defenses of educational, industrial and pre-diploma practice of future environment designers – students of the “Environment Design” educational program of the first (bachelor’s) level.

The purpose of the 1st-year student educational practice was to create comprehensive sketches of furniture items from life and their own furniture product concepts. Each comprehensive sketch consisted of several images, including different perspectives, orthographic projections, footnotes with interesting details and materials, exploded views, explanatory inscriptions, etc. During the first week of practice, students sketched furniture items from their homes or dormitories, and in the following weeks, they visited furniture trade centers, exhibitions, and museums for this purpose along with their practice supervisor.

On the day of defense, the students presented reports on their practice and sets of sketches. The review of works was conducted by the educational practice supervisor, Associate Professor Oleksandra Shmelova-Nesterenko, the head of the Department, Danylo Kosenko, and Associate Professor Tetiana Bulhakova.

During the educational practice at the base of Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design, the 2nd-year students deepened their skills in using specialized software for developing design projects. The task of the practice was to develop a project of a seating furniture item (chair or armchair), create general view drawings, detailed drawings, and material cutting drawings using CAD tools. Based on the completed drawings, the students produced large-scale models of the designed products using laser cutting machines. Additionally, they were required to develop presentation materials for the project using graphic design software.

The review of student works and defense of practice reports was conducted by the practice supervisor, the head of the Department Danylo Kosenko, Associate Professor Tetiana Bulhakova, and senior lecturer Ihor Antonenko.

The 3rd-year students underwent industrial practice in the design studios and furniture enterprises in Kyiv (LLC Eldoor, LLC Kronas-Trade, LLC Maisternia Kassone, LLC Taiger, FLP Filunets). During the practice, students learned about the work of enterprises, requirements for project documentation, and developed design projects for real objects according to the employer’s requirements.

Defense of practice reports for the 3rd-year students was conducted by the practice supervisor, Associate Professor Ruslan Ahliullin, and the Department head Danylo Kosenko.

During pre-diploma practice, the 4th-year students conducted their own pre-project research on the topic of their qualification work: they studied regulatory and scientific literature on the topic, researched global and domestic experience in designing similar objects, architectural situation of the design object, and the target audience. Practice supervision was provided by the Department teachers – supervisors of future bachelor's degree qualification works. Defense of practice reports was conducted by the Department head Danylo Kosenko, Associate Professor Ruslan Ahliullin, and assistant Svitlana Ostapyk.

Practical training is an integral part of the "Environmental Design" educational program, allowing students to deepen their knowledge and skills in professional disciplines through real projects and ensuring communication between the Department teachers, students, and employers.
