ROUNDTABLE WITH MASTER STUDENTS OF THE “ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN” PROGRAM

On March 28, 2024, a roundtable discussion was held to discuss the educational and professional program of the second (master’s) level of higher educationEnvironmental Design”. The meeting was attended by the 1st-year master students under the “Environmental Design” program, the program guarantor, PhD, Associate Professor Tetiana Bulhakova, the head of the Department of Interior Design and Furniture, PhD Danylo Kosenko, as well as Kateryna Sanina, a practicing designer and business trainer for interior designers, founder of the DAH “Design Advice & Help Club” community, who teaches the course “Branding and Presentation in Environmental Design” within the program.

  

The program guarantor, Tetiana Bulhakova, PhD, Associate Professor, provided students with information about the educational components of the program, the structural and logical scheme of the sequence of their study, and the program learning outcomes that students are expected to achieve.

The students actively participated in the discussion during the event. Overall, the students expressed satisfaction with the educational and professional program, which enables them to directly apply the acquired knowledge and skills in conducting their own research and prepares them for future teaching work.

Several proposals were made by the students. Sofia Rudenko proposed increasing the volume of practical tasks based on real projects to consolidate theoretical knowledge in the work of a designer. Alina Khlan suggested improvements to the Foreign Language for Business course, proposing more attention to be paid to professional terminology, material names, equipment and technologies for environmental design, and ethics of communication with colleagues and clients in a foreign language.

The students Oksana Storozhuk and Kristina Polityko suggested deepening the preparation of master students as future leaders in the field of design. They emphasized the importance of skills such as organizing teamwork, especially interdisciplinary, communication psychology with clients, legal knowledge regarding contract drafting, and creating their own business in environmental design. These proposals were supported by Kateryna Sanina, who agreed to participate in developing relevant educational topics and continue cooperation with the Department as a lecturer, sharing her knowledge and experience with students.

As a result of the roundtable, a number of proposals for improving the “Environmental Design” program at the second (master’s) level of higher education were agreed upon, which will be taken into account in the educational process.
