HONORING THE MEMORY OF LESYA UKRAINKA – A UKRAINIAN LITERARY GENIUS

At the initiative of students from the 3rd and 4th courses of the Tourism and Hotel-Restaurant Business Department, specializing in 242 "Tourism," under the guidance of their curator, Oleg Shevchenko, a walking excursion to the grave of the genius of Ukrainian literature, Lesya Ukrainka (Larisa Kosach-Kvitka), at the Baikove Cemetery took place. This year, the Ukrainian community commemorates the 110th anniversary of the memory of this incomparable daughter of Ukraine and the 120th anniversary of the death of the scientist, physicist-mathematician, writer-translator, and brother of the great Lesya, Mykhailo Petrovych Kosach.

Lesya Ukrainka's genius was primarily manifested to the world through the artistic expression of the national idea, her passionate love for her homeland, which lay in the defense of the rights of the Ukrainian people to independent national and state life. Lesya Ukrainka's unparalleled works continue to captivate with their rich imagery and the musicality of poetic language.

A distinctive feature of this event was that the route to the memorial was designed and conducted by the students themselves. During the journey, they acted as tour guides, showcasing their professional skills and profound knowledge of the history of great Ukrainians and significant architectural landmarks in Kyiv.

The beginning of the route took place symbolically at the monument to Lesya Ukrainka, which, unfortunately, is now surrounded by protective structures due to the threat of damage from russian missiles. Continuing along the route and passing by numerous architectural landmarks in Kyiv, the students visited the St. Nicholas Church. They heard from Yaroslav Ageyev and Kateryna Korenko about the history of its creation by the Ukrainian architect Vladyslav Horodetsky. Each participant in the event took part in presentations throughout the entire route..

In conclusion, we will quote the words of one of the participants of the event: "Through this journey, we call on all Ukrainians to take care of historical monuments and always remember and honor the legacy of our Ukrainian artists, who created the unshakable foundations of national identity!".
