APPLICANTS AND ACADEMIC STAFF OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION DESIGN VISITED THE MULTIMEDIA DOCUMENTARY EXHIBITION «BABYN YAR. MIRRORS OF DEATH»

On October 11, 2023, students majoring in 075 «Marketing» of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th courses of the Department of Marketing and Communication Design, together with their curators (Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Ievseitseva O., Ph, Doctor of Economics, Professor Bebko S., Candidate of Economics, Associate Professor Shikovets K., Candidate of Economics, Associate Professor Kvitova G., Candidate of Economics, Associate Professor Zymbalevska Y.) visited the multimedia documentary exhibition "Babyn Yar: Mirrors of Death".

The exhibition aims to bring back the deep knowledge of the evil of yesterday to stop the evil of today. About 100,000 people - Jews, Ukrainians, and Roma - were killed by the Nazis in Babyn Yar during World War II. Dozens of ravines are being left behind by the Russian army in Ukraine today.

The exposition consists of several dozen information banners that present documentary evidence of the tragedies that took place on the territory of Ukraine during the twentieth century and during Russia's full-scale aggression.

The exhibition begins with the topic of the shooting of Jews in Babyn Yar, which took place on September 29-30, 1941. The exhibition offers to walk along the path that peaceful people took on their last journey. At every step, you can look into numerous mirrors that reflect the fates of the Holodomor and Mariupol victims, deported Crimean Tatars and shot Roma, prisoners of the Gulag, Syrets and Yahidne, and prisoners of war killed in Katyn, Darnytsia, and Olenivka.

The war forced us to reconsider many processes, including the need for new approaches to memorialization. The main strategy of the Babyn Yar National Reserve is that it is a MEMORIAL of «living memory», and we must remember the price of freedom and independence.

After visiting the exposition, Oleksii Moroz, Deputy Director of the Babyn Yar National Museum, a stakeholder of the specialty 075 "Marketing", held a practical lesson on "Development of applied recommendations for the formation of a marketing strategy for the development of modern museums". Oleksiy also emphasized that the main tasks of museum marketing today are to take into account the peculiarities of information perception during the war in Ukraine.

Museums are currently one of the main social institutions that perform the function of forming national consciousness and historical memory of the nation, conveying knowledge about the past, deepening civic and patriotic qualities, preserving and disseminating cultural values of the nation, improving the educational process, etc.

The Department of Marketing and Communication Design expresses its gratitude and respect to the General Director of Babyn Yar, Rosa Tapanova, for organizing the tour and to Oleksiy Moroz for his interesting presentation of facts about the history of Kyiv and our country, which he professionally conveyed to us. We should always know and remember this page of our history.

We thank you and encourage everyone to visit the exhibition or to familiarize themselves with the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center at www.babynyar.gov.ua/
